Canadian police certificate
 

I need to get my police certificate (Toronto, Canada) for my K-1 interview. Does anyone know about the International Fingerprinting Service? Here is a link to their website:

Does INS accept police certificates from them? Anyone used their services? Any info would be appreciated.

What other ways are there to get a Canadian police certificate?

To get Canadian police certificate you have to contact or go to your nearest
RCMP office (you can find the phone #, or the address in the White pages).
They issue the police certificates that are accepted by the us consulates.
At this stage they probably don't require fingerprinting (as far as I know).

INS wouldn't accept my fingerprints I had done in Canada. *We do owr own* - I was told by the Indianapolis office.
Go to your local police station with picture ID and ask for a Criminal Records Check, that's what I used when applying for my K3 visa and it was accepted and since have been approved.

You go to YOUR local police department to get the forms and fingerprints

I am happy to say my Fiancee finally got her K1 visa approved a few days ago in Vancouver and she will be moving down shortly :) ...well anyway to answer your question...we originally had the same question you have here and we were also wondering all about the fingerprints...well we found out from a few good websites that you do not need your fingerprints done with your RCMP police certificate..all you need to do is go to your local RCMP office and ask them for a "non-immigrant" RCMP clearance check..do not get the fingerprint RCMP certificate (INS does not need that one)..or else it can take you from an average of 60 days(or maybe more) to get the results back from Ottawa..which isnt cool because the INS does not even need fingerprints with your RCMP certificate. I saw the RCMP certificate for myself when i visited her a couple weeks ago in vancouver.. from what ive read some RCMP offices can even give you the RCMP clearance certificate within 15 minutes it all depends on how busy they are..my Fiancee's certificate took her 3 days to get..which is way better than the 60 dyas we thought it would take.. so i hope you take my advice and just get a basic RCMP police certificate without prints.

You need to go to your local police department and tell them you need a criminal history check because you are applying for a visa for the USA. The only time you need to get fingerprints taken IN Canada FOR this police check is IF you have a criminal history IN Canada. If you don't have a criminal history then it should only take a matter of minutes for them to run your info and give you the certificate you need. IF you DO have a history and have to get fingerprinted it will take several weeks to get the criminal history check back. Don't get these fingerprints confused with the ones that the INS will take after you file for your adjustment of status (if you come in on a fiance visa.) Everyone who applies for a greencard has to be fingerprinted by the INS so they can run a criminal history check here in the states. Hope this makes sense. :)

Well I have been wondering about this same thing cause my fiance is going thru Vancouver. He had went to his local RCMP office & told them what he needed. They said they didnt deal with that sorta thing & for him to go to his local police station. So he did & got a police certificate. However it is not a RCMP one(with the RCMP logo on it) so I decided to email Vancouver asking them if my fiance's police certificate would pass the interview & they said yes. So my question is is this really gonna be satisfactory or is he gonna have to get a different one?

Also can you tell about your interview & what questions they asked, etc. WOuld like to know how it went. Thanks.

We too had that exact question with Vancouver. The local RCMP told us to go to the local police station. We did and Vancouver excepted it and my wife got her visa.

As far as I know INS does not accept fingerprints from other countries, they
do they own fingerprinting. If you need police certificate for the visa
purposes (in my case K1), the certificate is issued by RCMP. At least it was
stated in in the letter I received from the consulate 3 weeks ago. So far I
have lived in 3 countries and the consulate send me specific instructions
where and how to get all of my police certificates from all of the countries
I have lived in. I already had my interview last week and they accepted the
certificate I got from the RCMP. BTW I live in Vancouver.

I think your fiancé should e-mail the consulate in Vancouver and I'm sure
they will let him know. Now about the interview. I had my interview last
week. It was so easy I couldn't believe it. I had my interview (as other 3
people) at 2pm. When we got in they took our documents (not the ones that
prove the relationship) and then we had to pay $65. I had to swear in and
then the immigration officer (very nice young lady) asked me when, where and
how we met (I said we met in Vancouver through a mutual friend). And then
she asked me how long I have been studying (I study at UBC). Then she told
me to sit down and wait for my visa to be issued. Other 2 people went
through the whole process extremely quickly as well, one or two questions
asked, nothing difficult or tricky. They didn't ask for any additional proof
(but just incase bring everything). Only one person was still there when we
left, but I thing it was because he was missing some documents. Tell your
fiancé not to worry very much (I know it's easier said than done), but I'm
sure it's going to be ok. Good luck

As far as I know the INS only accepted RCMP certificates...but if the INS told you that it was ok to get one from the Vancouver Police dept. instead of RCMP..then im sure it is fine :) A few people here say that they will accept it too...so im sure it's ok to use the Vancouver one instead :) I advise you to print out the email (if possible) Vancouver sent you just as proof incase they ask you about it :)

Well about our story.. Im from L.A. CA (born in Texas :p) and my Fiancee was the one that had the interview in Vancouver..it was a few days ago..she told me that it was really easy and that the people there were friendly. We made sure we had everything ready for the interview, we checked everything like ten times to make sure it was perfect..we had photos of us together,phone bills, and other stuff to prove our relationship was real ..i went to visit her in Vancouver for a few days before the big day..i had to comeback to L.A. because i couldnt lose too many days from work. She said they barely even looked over her paperwork and didnt even ask for almost any of the evidence and as for the questions she says they asked her were: Where did you meet your Fiance?, Have you ever met in person?, Have you ever been to the U.S.? Has he ever been to Canada? Have you met his parents? has he met your parents? Do they approve of your relationship? and that was it..it took her less than ten minutes.. they told her "ok" and that her visa would be ready in like 15 minutes..and she left smiling she said about 30 minutes later..with visa in hand :) I wouldnt get too worried about the whole interview..most people i hear say that Vancouver is a a good place to get your visa. just make sure you tell them the whole truth and if you guys have nothing to hide..it should go fine for you both :)

Forgot to say this earlier ..She also said that out of the 5 people that had interviews that time (2pm) all of them got accepted..so i wouldnt worry to much about it...it should be fine...hopefully this helps :)

Thanks TexRaid & JD for answering. Seems really simple going thru Vancouver. Thank God. :) Yes I still have the email that was sent to me stating the local police certificate is ok. I told my fiance to be on the safe side I should print it out & take it along just in case. Can't wait to get this over with & get my honey back home with me. :)

My husband got his criminal records check at the main police post in
Edmonton. They also do fingerprinting along with it if u have a
criminal record. It costs $30 and it took a week to get back. The
RCMP told us that it was the same one that they do only it takes 3-6
months to get it back if u do it with the RCMP.
