If you are in the USA on a H-1B is it possible to sponsor a
family member for the time that you are in the US.

Only if you sign a form swearing to enroll that family member in EVERY welfare
program available.

Your dependents can get an H-4 visa, but the H-4 only allows them to stay with you
and also go to school, but not to work.
