Can you enter competitions without a visa?
 

Maybe a bit of a stupid question...but as I can't work for a few months (or even volunteer) I may as well use the time trying to get good stuff by other means! :lol:

Depends on the competition. If there is fine print, read it. If you are thinking of car racing, marathon running, etc. the organization should have a website. If you don't get paid for participating, IMHO I can see why not.

I think I'm using UK terminology rather than US...perhaps contest or sweepstakes would be better?

Yes, you can, but as Rete said make sure you read all the fine print to make sure it's not limited to USCs or US PRs.

I know in NYS you need to be a PR to collect your winnings. Since you are married to a US citizen, she can always claim any winnings that you are unsure of.
