Presuming the kids are the person getting the H1, then no, they'd get H4's.

We live here on that (plus bonus, but that's not guaranteed so it's really only holiday money). Hubby works in mountain view and San Francisco and we live in a 4 bed rental in Foster City. We have 2 kids. We are by no means rolling in it but are comfortable. Totally doable IMHO and we're delighted with our choice of foster city so far

Ps we were looking at both MV and FC and certainly didn't find FC to be much cheaper!! Happy to answer any questions you may have.

Oh, and hubby's boss commutes in from Los Gatos. I think that would be doable to MV and it's gorgeous! No idea if it's more expensive though

Los Gatos rental prices are around the same as MV, FC is probably around $1k per month cheaper.

I do think we struck it lucky with the house we are in, but we were looking at the 3.5k a month region and prices were similar in MV and foster city. Ie we could get a home with the sq ft we needed. Granted we couldn't afford the better areas of MV though and FC it's more much of a muchness area wise....hence we live here!
