Default Can my parents visit me in the US?

Hi, I booked flights from London to Newark, USA for my parents in August. On the UK government site it says that most direct relatives of US permanent residents are exempt from the travel ban. However, I now just checked the actual Presidential Proclamation, and it doesn’t mention parents? It’s very confusing. I’m a green card holder in the application process for citizenship.

Does this mean my parents are not allowed to come? why are airlines taking people’s money knowing that they are not allowed to enter? Has anyone else been in this situation? I haven’t seen my parents for two years due to Covid and I’m desperate to see them.

https://travel.state.gov/content/tra...xceptions.html

The Proclamations do not apply to:
  • U.S. citizens;
  • lawful permanent residents;
  • spouses and minor children of U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents;
  • parents or legal guardians of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident unmarried minor child;
Are you an unmarried, minor child? (under 21). If not, then, as I understand it, your parents come under the travel restrictions.

There are National Interest Exemptions one can apply for to allow travel.....

Because the airlines DON'T know the familial relationships and personal circumstances of their passengers.

Why are people booking flights if they don't know if they can travel or not. Works both ways.

You can visit them in the UK though, maybe an option to look at?

Yeah, considering that, don’t know if my kids could cope with 10 days quarantine at my parents’ house😜

People can also opt to spend 14 days in a third country. The bsn is on people who have been in the UK plus number of other countries in past 14 dsys, rather than a ban on UK citizens. The obvious place to go is aMexico. But of course this is a large added expense and not necessarily practical. If you can you are indeed better off going back to the UK.

You can do ‘test and release’ on day 5 to cut the quarantine time in half? And by August, it’s possible that the new rules regarding travellers who’ve been fully jabbed not having to quarantine at all will have been introduced.

You can also "serve' your quarantine in your parents house if that is possible for you. They themselves would not need to quarantine with you, so can continue about their business, it would just be you that would need to wait for the day 5 test to release (or, as stated above, the new rule for fully vaccinated may be in place by the time you travel).

That is surely not right, isolating does not mean you can live in the same house as someone who is then able to move about in public. That would be like peeing in a corner of a swimming pool thinking the pee won’t spread because you don’t move.

You must not leave your home if you're self-isolating.

Don’t

  • do not go to work, school or public places – work from home if you can
  • do not go on public transport or use taxis
  • do not go out to get food and medicine – order it online or by phone, or ask someone to bring it to your home
  • do not have visitors in your home, including friends and family – except for people providing essential care
  • do not go out to exercise – exercise at home or in your garden, if you have one

    a number of airlines will allow you to move the tickets out to a further date, and almost all will do it for a flat fee (its better than losing).. Our folks moved theirs out Since last april, and out, and still out!.

    Although you’re supposed to be apart from them and ‘avoid contact’ in a ‘separate room’.

    Excellent. Thanks for that, good that the government are providing that flexibility since the traveler is low risk anyway. Only if symptoms appear does the whole household need to isolate.
