can i renew the passport for my son when it has L2 visa on ?

Dear all:

my son' s current passport will be expired in Jan 2018.

it has the L2 VISA on it which has just been approved and received.

we are moving to US in June .I would like to renew his passport while we are still in UK.

my question is : is it going to be an issue when he enters US first time in June , we will give 2 passports to the immigration officer ? one is old with the visa , the other one is a new valid passport ?

I personally don't think it is a problem at all.

however just want to ask in case anyone had this situation before so I can put my mind at rest .

thanks

This is a very common scenario... and perfectly okay! It won't be a problem.

Yep, most of our family travelled with two passports for years. Rubber-band the two together, or seal together in a zip-lock sandwich bag. Just hand both over whenever required....

Download form, complete and courier to the address in the UK, with your old passport. Wait for passport to return by courier about 10-14 days later. :)

Is super quick and easy, much to my surprise. Walgreens have a machine that does photos to the UK passport standards. The only complication might be for younger kids who need a counter-signature, as ideally (there are workarounds) you need a British passport holder who's known you for at least two years.

FIFY. :)

The machines in the Walgreens near me certainly do not offer UK passport sized photos, I tried several.

Our Walgreens doesn't have a photo machine at all but it does have staff to take your photo and then look up the correct size to crop it to.

At our local Walgreens the computer faces the customer, they go on it with you, select UK, take your photo and give you the sheet with the 4 photos on it. They told me to cut it myself but I sent the sheet uncut. I paid 103 pounds and it took 8 days. The first words on the cover are "European Union".

That's great, so long as people don't post as if all Walgreens have the equipment and software to create British passport photos, because they don't.

Typical US. You'd think this would be a consistent thing; that the same software would be rolled out nationally. Are they franchises or something?

I just got my new passport. I got my passport pics taken at Walgreens. I had to argue with the guy in the photo dept. about searching the software, and eventually he found the UK passport size. I would not have known about Walgreens had it not been for another BE thread which said you have to be pushy when asking for the UK version.

I applied for my passport online, printed and then with a signed declaration page, copy of US passport, and pics, sent off to Durham. 8 days later DHL delivered my new passport. It's been over a week and no sign of old passport though.
