Can I get unemployment benefit?

Long story short, I am shortly relocating to be with my wife.

She tells me people are eligible for unemployment benefit if you relocate to join a spouse. But I am not yet a citizen.

Can I do this as a LPR? I have worked for four years......

Any ideas?

In my state (SC) you cannot. You have to be working in SC for one year and you have to be terminated through no fault of your own in order to claim benefits. A lot of members from TX post on here, so I'm sure that others (with more knowledge) will chime in soon. Safe travels on your way to America.

Relocate from where? The UK to the US? Then no, your working in the UK has nothing whatsoever to do with unemployment benefits and eligibility in the US.

From one state to another state? Not unless you have been made redundant or been fired. Quitting employment voluntarily makes you ineligible for unemployment benefits.

Re: Can I get unemployment benefit?

Ok sorry for the confusion but I am not in the UK.

I have been living and working in Texas for five years.

Recently, my wife started working in Houston. I am in Dallas.

We have two children that are with me in Dallas. We would like me and the kids to move to Houston.

I am trying to find out if I quit my job to move to another part of the state of Texas because my wife's job moved, can I claim unemployment?

But did you read it entirely:

In addition:
  • If you quit to move with your husband or wife, you may be able to receive benefits after a disqualification of 6 to 25 weeks. This is a disqualification of both time and money, because we must subtract the number of weeks from your total benefits.
  • If you quit to move with your military spouse, Texas lets you receive benefits without a disqualification if your spouse has a permanent change of station longer than 120 days, or a tour of duty longer than one year.
3. Ongoing availability and work search requirements

Looks like you can't unless I need another cuppa this morning in CA it is early!!

It says "pays to employers through no fault of their own"

2. Your separation from your last work

You must be unemployed or partially unemployed (reduced hours) through no fault of your own to receive benefits.
