I am also canadian and i've done mine twice, once in FL and once in GA.
In FL they made me take the written test. In GA they didn't b/c I was
transfering my FL licence to GA. Both times I was on F-1 visa. It was
a simple process each time. I checked the state's DMV website to see
what documents they required for non US citizens. You should do that for
the state you are going to. Bring the documents they say and you
shouldn't have any problems.

I called the DDS today again and they told me different story. They
said I need to do the road test and written test again. But last time
I called they said I could do that. I am a little confused.

Need help

What state are you in? I might be wrong, but DDS (whatever that is) does
not sound like the place to ask.
As others have said, each state is different.

What's the DDS?

What you need to do is look at your local DMV's website to determine what you need in order to get your local driver license.

Rene

I asked the question before as well. DDS stands for doctor of dentistry not for the department of motor vehicles.

LOL, I know, I asked before too. Never got an answer from the OP on it, so thought I'd ask again.

I wonder if it stands for "Defensive Driving School"?

It WAS the DMV in Georgia.
For the OP here is the link:
http://www.dmv.org/ga-georgia/apply-license.php

She is right!! It IS DDS, which is very strange.

"Effective July 1, 2005 the Department of Motor Vehicle Safety (DMVS)
will become the Department of Driver Services (DDS). "

Here is the link to their new page.
