Got my greencard ( 2 year conditional ) in December. Question is can I purchase a firearm from a store lawfully?

Hi:

I have no idea other than to tell you this -- you violate and are convicted of ANY firearm law, you are removable. If you are still married to a US citizen, the only remedy will be to apply for new green card via a new I-130 and adjustment of status.

As you can tell, the gun laws of this country are quite convoluted.

With a GC you are not excluded from owning a firearm, though there are exceptions for non-immigrants who are in possesion of a valid state hunting permit.

Learn the law, get lots of training and practice, join the NRA! You'll be fine!!

You'll be OK - The NICS check takes about 5 mins, though be aware you will be "delayed" as a non citizen, this can take up to 3 days as they have to check your status with the immigration services.

You might have to take 90 days worth (take 120) of bills proving 3 months residency, along with every other piece of ID you own Passport, Driving Licence, GC (of course) take it all.

If you haven't already done so, please check your state's rules about eligibility to purchase a firearm legally.

I also hope that you've thought through the consequences of owning a firearm, regardless of whether you have children in your home or not. I speak as someone who shoots and has firearms in the home.

My advice is get your carry permit first.. can save a few problems.
There is a course held at the Tampa gun show at the show grounds
next one is 28 feb/Ist Mar... I will probably be there..

Of course you can buy privately with an ID and a non felon declaration without any checks
