Default Can anyone recommend a CPA in Charlotte, NC?

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a decent CPA in the South Charlotte area? I'm getting sick of my current guy not returning my e-mails

I'm in the area, more or less, but my CPA is in Virginia!

On the broader topic, I see quite a number of British marked vehicles (front tags, union jacks, "inside joke" state tags, British soccer club decals, etc) in the area, but there are very few BE posters from here, in fact I know of only two (one just south of the border, and another in divorce/greencard hëll at the moment) since Sue left the area last year.

Do you need your CPA to be in the SC (South Carolina) area?

Pete Newton is often recommended on this forum, he is based in NYC I believe http://www.britishexpatstax.com/

Pete is my accountant. He is qualified to do taxes in the US and the UK. You don't need to use someone local. I think he''s great.

Ooh replies! Thanks everyone.

I don't suppose I really need someone local, I just thought it might be handy.... So, I might pester you for details of your CPA at some point in the future, Pulaski, or give Pete Newton a try maybe. I might even try doing it myself next year - I mean I'm terrible at maths and have no patience for long complicated forms with pages and pages of instructions, so what could possibly go wrong?!

In terms of timescale my CPA had all the info he needed at the end of January and I'm still waiting for the final returns!! When he does get in touch it's all sorts of excuses about waiting for software updates, etc.... I think he's had plenty of time, but am I being unfair/too impatient? (he is someone I've been going to for years but his standards seem to be slowly declining - or maybe I'm just getting more fussy in my old age).

Pulaski: Yes, there does seem to be evidence of lots of Brits in the Clt area, but I've only come across one in passing and I've been here a while!

Sportychico: Charlotte is a nice enough place to live - it's certainly booming, in that the World and his wife are coming to live here! Depends on what you like/what you're used to....I guess.... If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to try and answer them

I met a guy called Reg Davies, he's a CPA in South Park in the Big Ben pub a few weeks ago.. JRD Financial Services. Think he said he was originally from Warrington, been in the US 30 years.

I'm in S. Charlotte too. I've met Reg Davies a couple of times and he seems like a really nice bloke, but I have no idea whether or not he's a good CPA so I can't help you there.

Reg used to arrange a really good bonfire night every year but I'm not sure if he still does. There used to be a British expats meetup group in the area but it closed down due to lack of interest.

I went to one in 2008 at McHale's in Tega Cay, but haven't been to any since. He used to organize a Brit team at the old Big Ben's quiz night too...before it burned down.

Ha! Well, Reg sounds a character, but timely replies to my e-mails would do for me...

Sportychico: The climate in Charlotte is pretty variable - for instance on Sunday it was in the mid 70s and lovely, Monday was 37 degrees cooler with hailstones! Generally I'd say winters are pretty mild with the occasional bit of snow. Because the snow is the exception rather than the rule, however, it does tend to cause chaos, closings, power outages, etc, but rarely lasts very long. Spring and Fall are generally nice warm and mainly comfortable, but Summer tends to be pretty hot and humid and can top the 100 degree mark. Thunderstorms can be pretty spectacular too. It can take a bit of getting used to, but air-conditioning makes all the difference.

Why is it you never find out about these things until you move away
