Not everywhere - depends on which county/city you are in - see the link above.

When I was in the US as a visitor, I assumed Sales Tax was like VAT and could be claimed back on departure so I saved up all my receipts. I was soon set straight though :D

Edit: I should say that Louisiana offers a tax rebate to international visitors. I believe it's the only state to do so?

Lol Wintersong that is so funny. Ive been here for a few years now & I still hate the way tax is added to things at the checkout & every state has different rates etc. Where Im from the tax is already included so if it says something is $10.99 then thats what you pay. Not too sure my son will like tax being added but hes only here for a few weeks so he will have to learn to live with it.

I'm the same - I hate looking at a piece of furniture for, say, $400 and thinking "That's pretty reasonable" then suddenly remembering that it's going to end up costing you $450. Why can't they just show the full price on the item FFS?

So many times I've been caught out, going into a shop to buy a bottle of coke or something, checking my purse for change and thinking I have enough and then getting to the checkout and realising I've forgotten about tax. So embarrassing!

it's because there lazy gits...and also different states have sales tax, so makes int fiddly for large corps to have an all inclusive price listing....

though it's amusing seeing those 99c menu's, and after tax...f'ing coppers are a pain to dig up *l*

By coppers your meaning pennies right?? I hate those things with such passion. Cant believe they still use them over here & it still bugs me that although they use dollars & cents, they still call them pennies...go figure huh?:D
