I agree, I monitor my mirrors constantly, and notice as vehicles move from back to side to front, or vice versa, but I almost always double check before changing lanes because I am a "measure twice, cut once, belt and braces kinda guy".

Agreed, because it only takes a split second for somebody two lanes over and in the region of the blind spot to move up and over directly into your blind spot. Southern California drivers are "move fast, don't signal" kind of guys. For the same reason I try to avoid moving into a lane directly parallel to another vehicle - as much as possible in front or behind.

Me too - heritage of motorbike training, where they really emphasize the use of the 'lifesaver'.

I'm with you on this one. Traveling down the interstate, or just 4 lane roads in general, I have a pretty good idea of all the traffic around me due to frequently checking the mirrors.

However, I always check before changing lanes and always check the blind spot - doing so has saved my bacon a few times.

This is also one of my rules. I absolutely try to avoid switching lanes at the side of another vehicle. I've witnessed too many near misses.
