San Juan is a great place to spend the day. The Amtrak drops you right there.

Please clarify this answer. There are cities called San Juan in Costa Rica and Puerto Rico. There are two cities to my knowledge in CA with "San Juan" in their name: San Juan Bautista and San Juan Capistrano. Both are named after the Spanish Mission located there.

The Amtrak goes stops near San Juan Capistrano Mission, but not San Juan Buatista.

BTW, I don't think Amtrak goes to "Cali."

Keep your hair on, Foly! The -y diminutive morpheme is especially popular with Brits.

Well now, old man, it would appear that many Americas as well as foreigners call California by the nickname of Cali. Been seeing it on these forums for a few years, in the Canadian forums for years and even in referred by Americans as such. In mixed company, the US Postal Service abbreviation of California (CA) cannot be used as CA also refers to Canada's abbreviation for its country.

Also why the need to admonish these posters who do not place a state after a county, city, town or landmark? Since the thread is referring to California, only an ijit would think it were another country.

BTW I can call you old man because we're the same age/generation.

Well it looks like the holiday for one will only be 3 days, we've decided to extend his plane tix and hotel (or book another depending on what kind of dive Ricoh put him in this time) and spend the weekend and a few days running around seeing the sights.
The course is in Tustin and the hotel will either be in Santa Ana or Costa Mesa. I'm going to join him on the Wednesday so I get a couple of days looking around doing my own thing before we take off and get to see the sights. His list includes the Mojave National Preserve and or the Joshua Tree NP. Andddd .. Stone Brewing Co. home of Arrogant Bastard Ales yummmm !

A get together with some of you warm coast folks would be nice too

Jan

Arrogant Ale ... that is funny

We have a winery in the Finger Lakes whose wines are called:

Pompous Ass and Kiss My Ass

Unfortunately he doesn't get a choice of training centres if he did we'd be heading back to Denver. He has another course at the beginning of August in Wilsonville, Oregon which hes also not so pleased about although at least there he can visit his folks in Washington.. He said the worst they ever sent him to was Oakland. He got a fellow trainee to drop him off at Walmart and stocked up and only went out of his hotel room to training meetings he at cold food all week !
