Default Buying UK Music in the US???

Having lived in the US now for nearly 4 months, I realise one of the things I miss is an HMV or a Virgin Mega Store for browsing and buying music.

I have not found anything here yet that even comes close (Best Buy is sort of OK ish!)

Can you buy from Amazon.co.uk and have it shipped to the US. Amazon.com is full of US music!!

I see than HMV will be starting music downloads soon which may be an answer.

What is the best way to browse and buy UK music? Any good suggestions?

I have a Virgin near me which has a huge selection but costs more than other stores (although is still much cheaper than UK stores). I believe amazon UK would ship here but you may get import tax added. I've found Target to be pretty good, stocking some UK bands at around $10. If you are near LA then Amoeba Records is huge and has many genres, used and new. They are on Sunset Blvd but I think they have a couple of other stores in California.

Most probably get a bill for duty on it. Especially as it's a purchase for yourself and not a gift. Found that out when I bought a footy shirt for my husband and got an import bill from customs

The last order we placed (Chelsea FC Season Review), we paid £10.20 plus £3.08 shipping. The email confirmation stated 'Sold by Amazon.com Int'l Sales, Inc.' It was also received within a week of placing the order, which was nice!

I think this is the luck of the draw, I have ordered quite a few DVDs and CDs with no issue - watch my next one get stopped!

Yeah I found the same thing when I ordered in some replacement china from England. I had to pay import duty, that was a shock.

What is it with everybody here?

Place something that looks like a lemon but is green before the name of something that conducts the electricity from the socket in the wall to your TV and it's all there!

I like to use downloads as an evaluation but I prefer buying the original if I like it. The sound quality on downloads is usually poor in comparison, plus of course your favourite artists have to make a living too! I am a big fan of try before you buy though.

Why not sign up for a UK iTunes account if you've still got a UK credit card?

there's plenty of legit sites, there's the new napster, which is a good deal...then real player do one, itunes, there are loads to chose from and some do really good subscription rates...
some sites have other formats like monkey, flac etc, which aren't compressed formats, so huge, but top quality sound.
