Buying a title?

Is it possible to buy a lordship or something similar?. A conversation at work the other day led up to this question and I thought you could, but I wasn't 100% sure it wasn't a scam I'd seen on TV.

Yes, in fact there was a show on TV the other day in which a title was sold on the auction block.

There are also some scam companies, I believe.

At first I thought it defeated the purpose if you buy a title - a little like buying an Olympic gold medal... but then I realized that being titled isn't something you earn most of the time anyway - it's just luck at birth if you are a descendant of someone who centuries ago was given a title for some laudable achievement.

Maybe people who buy titles are a bit like people who buy Porsches....

But when you do your citizenship, you'll have to renounce it!

It's not for me. I think the person I was chatting to was a little disappointed I wasn't related to the Queen in some way. lol I'm already treated very well at work due to turning on the English charm. But I am sure a title would be the iceing on the cake. :D

*Yes*
Thinking of getting a t-shirt printed "I don't know either William or Harry, so don't ask". It'll save me hours of replying to this question.

I was getting my hair cut last week and the hairdresser asked me if I'd ever met Elton John or the Beatles. She was dead serious. My wife told me I should have said yes to both. lol

And that would mean... what?

Having met plenty of fellow Porsche owners, I can assure you that there we have nothing more in common than owners of any other brand of car.

I bought my first Porsche for way less than the price of a new VW Golf. I liked the look of the 911, and from my first test drive I was hooked. So what am I 'like'?

So, like people who buy Ladas, or 30-year old clapped out Chevys? Yes, I think I see the similarity....
