Buying a PC in the USA...
Hehe
We all owe PCs a great debt, myself - I met my wife on the net, so owe Pcs for my impending green card (hehe)
If not our wives, then we owe a lot just for this forum don't we. Funny how we take them for granted - along with the internet.
Anyway, Ive been holding off buying a new PC in the Uk, seeing as Ill be in the US in a few months....
I remember being in Best Buy and drooling at all their goods, not just PCs.
So, what spec Pc have you got, where did you buy it from, and how much was it?
Im SO gonna be shopping when im in the US!!!!!

I'd personally buy it online from Dell. Great deals.

I use Dell at work (P4 very fast)
At home, it was the Xmas of 2001, Best Buy were selling a Pentium 3 1.6 Ghz, printer, 17" monitor, with XP for $395 with rebate...
Bargain, as its still going strong

We bought our UK PC from Dell 3 years ago and it has been great. As soon as we get to the US, we're ordering a spanking new one. I've already been checking on their website and for about $1200 you can get one with a pretty darn good spec.

I should have added to my original post that we have a Dell also. I dont know what the exact spec is, but I know it was the top spec available when it was new last year.

My brother graduated to a Commodore 64 shortly thereafter. I was not allowed to touch that!
And boo hoo, my Dad has just sold my Acorn computer, he had no idea what to ask for it, I could have made a killing holding on to that for a few years and selling it on eBay.

This was my first introduction to computers
It wasnt actually mine though, it was my friends who lived across the road, but I practically moved in when he got his ZX81
My first actual owned computer was a Commodore vic 20, then I graduated the the 64 then on to an atari st, commodore amiga, 386, pentium 120, pentium 400 laptop, pentium 500 computer when I spilt coffee on my laptop and finally onto whatever this Dell 2.something or other is.

I would never buy a prebuilt PC like a Dell, or HP ect, because you can build your own for much less, and often it will be better quality and faster. Dell, etc often skimp on things like the graphics card ,many bundle pentium 4 systems with cheap graphics cards that were cutting edge 5 years ago, or with a cripplingly minute amount of RAM like 256mb.
I used Newegg.com to build my PC:
Athlon Barton 2800+
1Gig PC3700 RAM
ATI 9600 128Mb gfx card
19" Flatscreen Monitor
Two 120Gb Seagate 10,000 rpm hard drives with RAID
5.1 Soundcard
And so on. I built this top notch PC, ideal for video editing and heavy graphical work and games for under $1500.
Using retailers like Newegg, it's easy to undercut companies like Dell part for part on cheaper systems too.
