Default Business Licences

Hi

Does anyone know what licences we would need for starting a soft play/party business in the state of Florida. Working with children? Someone mentioned we would need a sales licence?

Many thanks

You need a license for most businesses in Florida. Have you checked out the Small Business Association regulations? Hint: Google is your friend.

Someone once mentioned that former US President Kennedy was killed by death rays from Mars... so let me ask: Who is "someone"? What's the source? How reliable are they?

The business aside, what visa will you have to get to the US? Without a visa, absolutely nothing will happen regardless of how well-planned you are, how much property you have, or how many business licenses you get.

Thanks for that Ian! Yes I've looked on google but can't find anything specific for the type of business I will be running. A soft play/kids fitness/ party business.
We will be moving over on an E2 visa and obviously the licence is a visa requirements. Our US immigration lawyer had advised us we will need a sales licence but hasn't given us any further information.

Many thanks

Did he mean a sale tax license? Florida has a high sales tax and you perhaps need a license to collect applicable sales taxes from your customers.

Have no clue what a soft play for children business is but did find this on google.

Florida Business - Licenses, Permits and Registration

If you are running something like a child care service then you would need the applicable licenses to not only run the business but the appropriate high cost insurance as well.

If you are just doing a business with a bouncy castle and will be selling beverages, small snacks, t-shirts and socks, then that is different. Perhaps you are not looking up the correct name of the type of business you are planning on opening and operating.

The florida business registry may also be useful. Their site also has phone numbers and contact details. It appears that this is the site. A lot of other states use .gov addresses

Anything that involves children will need background checks on staff, too -- may not be mandated, but is an essential.

I would guess something like Monkey Bizness (Monkey Bizness - Indoor Playground & Birthday Parties)

They are like indoor playgrounds, you can rent rooms for birthday parties.

We call those places bouncy centers or play places. Never heard of the term soft play. Makes me wonder what hard play is. Have several that I have been to in Florida and in Westchester, NY with the grandkidlet.

Here's one of them:

Can't see that he would be making much money on this for an investment visa to be successful. When I take grandkidlet to Fort Myers next week, there are three of those type places we will be visiting during the very hot afternoons.

This organisation has a good page and relevant links
Florida Business - Licenses, Permits and Registration

most larger towns/cities have small business advice centers, I would suggest you google using the name of the place you want to live and small business advice or startup advice.

depending how much or how big/risky your business is , you may want to register as a Deleware or Nevada company and register as a foreign company in Florida.
