I going to be on holiday on Toronto area in a couple weeks. I will be staying between Toronto and Waterloo over the two weeks. I don't want to rent a car and was looking for advice on the best way to get between the two. Is there an easy bus or train route?

Thanks,

VIA runs between Toronto and Waterloo. You can get on at Union Station on Front St.
down near the waterfront in downtown Toronto. Also, you can catch a bus at the Bay
St. terminal in Toronto which will get you to Waterloo. I believe those are your best
options. There may be web sites for each which will give you a schedule.

Good Luck! Marg

Have a good time.

Not exactly "easy"; see below.

Wrong. VIA Rail <http://www.viarail.ca> (schedules also available at
<http://www.cwrr.com/Canpass/via/>) runs between Toronto and *Kitchener*, from where
you would have to continue to Waterloo by taxi or city bus
(<http://www.region.waterloo.on.ca/grtransit/>; route 8 is nearest the train station,
but route 7 may take you nearer where you want to go in Waterloo). On the other hand,
to put this in perspective, going from Kitchener to Waterloo may be a shorter trip
than getting to central Toronto to get to the train station -- it all depends on
where you'll be.

Correct.

You can, but the main service is, again, to Kitchener. (If you continue by city bus,
in this case route 7 is more easily reached.) Greyhound Canada
<http://www.greyhound.ca/> operates the Toronto-Kitchener route; it's much more
frequent than the train. And yes, there are a few buses direct between Toronto and
the University of Waterloo, though this may not be helpful if you're going to a
different part of town. (On the Greyhound web site they're under "Waterloo
University, ON".)

By the way, if you do follow that link, take a look at the *shapes* of routes 7 and 8
on the map. When route 7 was first introduced around
1973 (Iwas living in Waterloo then), Conestoga Mall either did not exist or was much
smaller, and there was no branch of the bus route going to it. Why is this
interesting? Because *both* routes 7 and 8 were assigned their numbers *based
on the shape of the bus route*. It wouldn't surprise me if this was the only
time in the world that this has been done for both of those numbers.
