God, are you lot really 'whiter than white' ??

Besides, let the OP's other half decided what she wants to do.

He asked, people replied.

Right - and if you don't keep up your end of the contract, there may be legal consequences. OP wants to explore what those legal consequences are. Once you know what the consequences are, it's up to you to decide whether you still want to keep up your end -----> "efficient breach".

Oh hush next you will be telling us that the lenders have effected debt insurance and built in a bad debt provision to their pricing model. How immoral of them to double dip like that and then charge the customer.

lol - I wouldn't go that far! How the bank covers its risk is up to them.

If she wants to be honest she should call them and tell them she is immigrating. They will then give her a settlement figure, which will be less than the balance. 6k depending on what rate they gave her, should amount to about 4k settlement. Job done! Otherwise just continue to pay the monthly payments from the states.

Eh? An unsecured loan just means there's no specific collateral. It doesn't mean if you don't pay the loan back -> they sue you -> they win -> and you don't pay ... that they can't seize goods (poss after another court order), surely?

The loan is unsecured, so it is uncollateralized, and there is no car, house, etc, attached to it.

I do understand the moral and ethical implications. But I'm more interested in the legal ramifications.
I can't believe your even considering not paying it. It seems that she can afford to fly to the US. Some people have no integrity.

I've yet to pay 6 thousand squid for a ticket across the pond. But I prefer traveling with the the proles anyway.

Is integrity the same as or different from morality?

To be honest, I just get fed up with some people getting stuff for nothing. If you're an honest person, the banks are ripping you off, and the defaulters are ripping you off.

I get pissed when the CEO of United Health Care is paid 70,000 bucks an hour. Save your ire for someone who deserves it.
