British solicitors (again!)

Just have to vent about flippin' useless UK solicitors. You may remember my earlier posts about buying a house in the UK. Well, it all went through (no comments on the housing market crash, please!).

About three days after completion, I get an email: "You can pick up your keys from the estate agents when you are ready". That was it! No Dear Dr. Rowe, we are pleased to tell you...."

Well now it's about 6weeks later and I've heard nothing else. I emailed them a week ago to ask "excuse me, do I get any kind of legal papers showing I now own the house?" No reply!

Shouldn't I have been sent the title to the house, or completed contracts? Is 6 weeks too short - does it usually take longer?

You won't get the title if you mortgaged it that will be with the building society/bank. You should have signed contracts a while ago then your solicitor had them for exchange and comepletion - unless you gave someone power of attourney to sign for you. There is usually loads of paperwork through the process for you to review and confirm you are OK with - unless it was really smooth.
