So just an update: the British Embassy Washington received my application yesterday, the 30th May. I found out about the unfortunate delays around this time last year and was wondering if anyone had any info on how long the process has been taking this time? even though my application has been received, my cc hasnt been charged yet :/

It won't be as bad as last summer, but probably count on around four to six weeks.

On the ukinusa website it said expect it to take five weeks from receipt of payment. im planning on going away in seven weeks so i hope this is enough time! i haven't booked the flight, but I've booked it off from work. Thanks for the reply, crossing all extremities it happens swiftly!

So I woke up this morning to find out that my card has been charged for the passport renewal! I'm really excited now. So I guess this means 5 weeks from today I should have it? Correct?

SO...Today I received my new passport!!!! I'm so excited! That was WAY within the five week period stated!! One question though, I didn't actually receive my original documents back yet. Is this normal?

If they follow the same procedure as the US, then you should receive your originals back in a separate envelope. You'll probably get it in the next couple of days.
