British passport due to expire in 2 months
 

I'm a British Citizen living in the USA on a green card. My British passport will expire in two months. I was planning on renewing it next month as I was going to visit family back in Scotland in May. However, I have a family member who passed away and I would like to go to the funeral. Would there be any problems leaving the USA and entering the UK with a green card and 2 months left on my British passport. Also, would there be any issues for me returning to the USA with a green card and a British Passport that will expire in 2 months. I plan to be in the UK for one week only.

As for returning to the USA using your green card, it won't matter that your UK passport is due to expire.

I can't imagine it would be a problem entering the UK, either.

As I understand it, the usual advice about a passport needing six months life left on it for visitors doesn't apply to permanent residents or indeed, to work visa holders, such as holders of L-1's, H-1's, etc. I seem to recall Ian explaining that as recently as last week.

Thanks for the news. I'm glad I can get back over and reenter the USA without issue. I will get my passport renewed ASAP when I return to Arizona.

you can get same day passport renewal at some offices. Costs, but probably still cheaper than waiting till you're back and incurring two lots of courier fees. Google the passport office.

No problem going either way but renewing your passport using the one day Premium service in Glasgow may appeal to you.
