I was watching a some events on TV last night; the women's vault and floor excercises and mens swimming (one Japanese guy beat the favoured American in one of the heats for backstroke and barely got an acknowledgement).

I was astonished at how empty the stadiums were....hardly any spectators were present.

Love it all so far but really a shame that Britain are struggling to get a gold medal. I saw in the tables that apparently we do have a silver but I have no idea who won it and what for

Mens Synchronized Diving, yet another event where a panel of judges decide who is the best. For me a real sport is one where you can see who has won, they scored the most, ran the quickest or jumped the furthest/highest.

Hmm, a Sussex man. My parents were both from Sussex, maternal grandparents retired there. I spent many summer holidays there. Bury, Arundel area. My mother grew up in Haywards Heath, my father in a little village called Thakham. Very pretty.

Know this?

If I ever become a rich man,
Or if I ever grow to be old,
I will build my house with a deep thatch
To shelter me from the cold,
And there shall the Sussex songs be sung
And the story of Sussex told.
I will hold my house in the high wood
Within a walk of the sea
And the men that were boys when I was a boy
Shall sit and drink with me.

a new one on me - but one I shall remember to ask my parents about ...

my ancestors on both sides go back for many generations in Bexhill - I love the area and was sad to leave, but I love my Texan wife more ..

So, what happens if you take a Texan to Sussex?

Should have added, I ask because my husband is Mexican and I wonder about how he would ever fit into English culture should we ever live there.

nothing bad - we lived there after we were married for almost three years before moving here and she loved it - a permanent goggle-eyed tourist!!

to cut a long story short, we'd always intended to move over here because Cheryl has 3 sons in their early 20's and I have no children - we just thought it would be a few years from now, when grandchildren start arriving. Fate, however, had other plans as I was made redundant and we decided to use my severance payment to finance our move.

end of a short version of a very long story!

:)

What a shambles....what happened to our swimmers? even an British chick got beaten by the japenese in the 400

Correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't the lottery money ment to go towards sporting of excellence centers, to help financially with British up and coming stars in all sports?

I'm disgusted with our British sporting achievements, its a joke!
