British Citizenship Question

I was born in England, though both my parents were American citizens. Our family only stayed there around 7 years, moving back to the United states. Since I was born in England, would I be eligible for dual citizenship or not?

Thanks.

Re: British Citizenship Question

I'd imagine it would depend on if they gave birth to you here as tourists or residents. If tourists, I don't think you do - otherwise you could well be! :)

Cool, I had not seen that page on the homeoffice site...looks like it should be an easy process then.

Thanks!

The year of birth is relevant. You didn't give it.

Re: British Citizenship Question

After reading quite a bit more, and the fact I was born < 1983, it seems I'm automatically a British citizen, as are my children (by descent). Since I have a birth certificate, I should be able to apply for a UK passport no issue. They say obtaining a UK passport is a true test of citizenship.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Yep -- before 1983 it's XIVth-esque. You're good to go! Have you got a UK birth certificate?

Re: British Citizenship Question

Yes, I do have a UK birth certificate. I saw the form NS which would basically come back and tell me yes or no you are a citizen but I don't know if I want to pay 75 pounds for that.
