It is pretty interesting though in the USA because I used to think the yanks all sounded the same but now I know and loathe accents from maine, ND, and Louisiana whereas I don't mind accents from say Florida.
My fiance didn't really know either. I think another term for NED.

I've got a really strong Geordie accent, and it's not easy living in Brooklyn.

I get the usual "Oh, I love your accent, but what the hell did you just say"?

I sound like a mix of Geordie, Scottish, and whatever else you might think you hear when I talk.

I've even had people ask me if I'm from France! and one even thought I was Australian!!! the mind boggles.

I have a bad fear of talking on the phone over here, as I have to repeat myself 3 or 4 times before they finally get what I'm saying. It can make me depressed some times, but I'm never going to change the way I talk. I try my best, but it's still not good enough.

Regards

One of the first things I overheard after moving to London 8 years ago was some kid at a bus stop say " Do Wot ? I ced, - I aint got go faarkin' akcent ! ".

In fear of loosing mine and having the proper pi55 taken back home I've started conciously using the word Geezer as much as possible.. it's impossible to say it without using a London accent !

I speak to a lot of people on the phone every day and at least 4 or 5 times a day someone says "OOooo I love your accent, I could listen to you all day". It gets boring by the 700th time, especially when they say "Is it Australian/ Welsh/ Irish?" but at least it gets me remembered!
It does me well though when I am trying to sound authorative!

My best mate from Birmingham came over a few years ago. She has the strongest Brummie accent ever and someone said "I love your accent....." She was ROFL & said in her whole life, no-one ever said that before.

What I LOVE about British accents is the enormous variety that you just don't get here. Oh I know, someone from Alabama sounds totally different from someone in New Joisey, but they are a continent apart. Back home, you go 50 miles and they sound totally different.

Luckily I was educated in London and Lancashire, so I can use my Northern and Southern accents to deadly force over in the USA, lololol.

I find that the Americans adore the English accent, its ever so funny to hear them repeat "B*gger me" or S*d Off:lol

Such a joy to hear my American friends speak Cockney rhyming slang, bottle and glass, lol
