Breaking news to family etc?

Apart from BA cancelling all flights until 2015,
Wow that must be hard on you and him. Is there no other way he can leave S.L - by road? Excuse my ignorance

Yes, there are other air routes, involving Belgian airlines I think. However, the biggest problem is, ironically, getting back to SL again. His job involves spending several weeks there and and several back in the UK. If he can't get back to SL, he doesn't get paid. And travel just isn't reliable enough at the moment.
It's an unpredictable life anyway - like when BA and Kenya Air cancelled flights last year when Freetown airport's sole fire engine was out of action due to a bust gear box. What is a single fire engine supposed to do if a 747 crashed? But that's just the Leonie way.

We were lucky, no-one made us feel bad about leaving, sure they were sad to see us go but no-one was negative.
We also talk more to the in-laws now via FaceTime/Skype than we did when we lived 30 mins apart. We have a regular 9.00am chat on a Sunday for an hour and pop on if there is any news to report.
We didn't have a 'big do' but spent time with people individually, lunches, dinners, visits before we left, that way we felt we got quality time with everyone rather than a big party where you get 5 mins with everyone.
Give it a year and see how many of them still call, text, email, Facebook, send cards regularly, it doesn't half weed out the keepers!

Skype I find a bit weird. It's frustrating/sad if you want to be with someone, because you can see them but it's not real. But for family (! ) it's just annoying because your stuck looking at them and can't roll your eyes or do the cleaning.

Yellowroom - one of my friends was evacuated by helicopter a few years ago from S.L when the coup began, she was terrified as she could see other towns on fire in the distance and sounds of gunfire etc, wasn't much fun. She was working in a casino of all places at the time, it would be the last place I'd think there is a casino!
Not sure if we would have a leaving party, some people say yes and others say to go and see friends and family individually for lunch or dinner.......
