She is very cute so I had to watch the video twice, once looking at the bacon & eggs, the second time looking at the eater..
I agree, "hash brown" is definitely an American import. When I was a youngster, we'd fry up whatever leftover potatoes we had to go with breakfast; could be a bit of mash, or sliced up boiled spuds..
Getting back to the video, it looks like a delicious plateful but ... TAKE AWAY THE BEANS OR I'LL GAG. (Or was baked beans another thread? can't remember now..)
Hashbrown is a bit of a no, but nothing wrong with a side of chips, nice to mop up the fried egg and beans

I can't do "chips" (french fries) for breakfast, but hubby loves them anytime day or night. He's often had french fries for breakfast when we're out and about or on a road trip.

Chips go great with an Ulster Fry, or potato waffles would work

Philistines! You need bread and butter to go with a breakfast not chips - works better for mopping duties with the beans and fried tomatoes.

It has to be medium sliced white with a generous slather of butter.

Of course you also need a proper mug of tea (black tea, none of these fancy shmancy teas), decently stewed with a dollop of milk.

Damn, I'm hungry now.

I'd have them both. Fried soda bread and fried potato farls are preferred. I'd usually add the chips if it was closer to lunch time.

Doesn't have to be an either/or...usually it's a case of both

Chips to mop, but all crammed into a fried bread buttie

I think the technical term for that is a breakfastgasm

Soda bread? That stuff is so sugary it should be a pudding, not on a breakfast.

It is an integral part of an Ulster Fry, which is the single best breakfast in the known Universe

I'm quite a fan of old-fashioned "hotel toast." It is served in triangles, in a silver plated toast rack. It was actually toasted a while ago and kept warm, hence its flexible characteristics. Good with butter & marmalade, or inserted under the egg in the breakfast plate.

They do a similar version of that here in those little family restaurants dotted around all over the place, they serve them with their omelettes. You don't get them in a toast rack though, but definitely along similar lines. I love all the selections of jam you get as well.

oh god i do miss buttermilk biscuits hot from the oven, with a light layer of butter and then a big ol drizzle of honey or maple syrup...*drool*..

time to find the uk version of the recipe then..

but until then I'm sure a bacon butty will suffice..

I'm sure it helped you integrate into american life - bacon, pancakes, syrup and strawberries all on the same plate [shudder]

Not in the least - I wouldn't mess with that. Soda bread really isn't that sweet.
