Anyone bought one of these gadgets? Any opinions on which is best?

Re: Blu Ray or HD-DVD????
too bloomin' expensive....but you might as well hold out and get a player that can do both...
but for the money, the cheapest option is getting a PS3 which is a blu ray player all in, which is good value for money... but as far as data storage, still to expensive to see what's the best, that and considering how cheap hard drives are these days, there kind of a moot point as there less needed for a back up solution...not to mention burning a disk will take yonks...a good hour or so to fill up a disk and be very expensive. |

Betamax or VHS, anyone?
Wait and see! |
Re: Blu Ray or HD-DVD????
I think it was bill gates who said recently that both formats will be obsolete within a couple of years
seagate and ibm just announced terabyte hard disks and the internet and cable just keeps getting better where I am, at anyone time comcast offers HD movies on demand, and they are talking about greatingly expanding their selection - comast can make netflix and blockbuster worhtless overnight in my area at least I persoanlly don;t like sony at the moment, and it seems that blu ray is damn expensive and has worse picture quality right now that hd dvd |

Yeah i read that yesterday - they just won;t allow it oh well - they reckon porn has bigger revenues than hollywood.... |

For what it's worth, I bought the HD-DVD player add on for my X-Box 360. The picture quality is astounding! From what I've seen of the Blu Ray, it doesn't quite measure up.

I don't think you can go wrong now because by the time one wins out over the other, the player you have now will probably be obsolete.

A high end Denon DVD player connected through HDMI is going to give you pretty close to either of those. Check out: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=18 |

Check out: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=18 Need more info The problem is that you can;t make detail where no detail is present no matter how good an upscaler you have, 480 line of res is always going to look worse that 720 or 1080 line of res... |
