Default Black Tie Optional

Help everyone,

We've just been invited to a wedding here in Dallas in January. On the invite it says Black Tie optional.

Anyone been to a wedding here? How posh are we talking when we say Black Tie optional?

Any clothing advice gratefully received

Haven't got any personal experience, but here's an American etiquette site.

My wife and I have been invited to an event next week where it states Black Tie Optional. I plan to wear formal Highland wear with a bow tie, as I would instead of a Tux back in the UK.
