Yep, I (mis) read your post that the poor conditions were constant but some patches were "worse".

I agree, there is no substitute for experience. If you can find a large empty parking lot with a snowy/icy surface it makes a great place to practice.

Been meaning to do just that as it happens. There is a lot right next to us at the local college so that is on the agenda.

Get proper studded tyres, with studs in them, not the non-studded studs....they make a real difference..
