Post Black Friday & Cyber Monday

I've just seen a report that due to the poor Walmart employee who was trampled to death last year in NY, most of their stores are now going to open for 24 hours for "post Thanksgiving Day events"

http://money.cnn.com/2009/11/11/news...iday/index.htm

However, I would never go shopping on Black Friday. OTOH I would quite happily buy items online on what is now called 'Cyber Monday' - which will be on 30th November this year as I can't stand crowded shopping malls:

http://www.mahalo.com/cyber-monday (there are links with discounts too)

(PS: the word 'cyber' sounds very out of date to me...?)

On the contrary....this report says there isn't much point in waiting until 'Cyber Monday' when people apparently are normally back in the office and ordering gifts online, it says that Cyber Monday is actually now on or before 'Black Friday':

There are a selection of websites that either try to predict what e-tailers will be offering what Black Friday deals and/or try to compile those actual deals in one place so as to act as a kind of directory which can save a lot of work.

One favourite site of mine is http://dealnews.com/ but I'm sure others will have other good ones to post.

SlickDeals all the way for me.
I've saved so much money on stuff during the year I could really give a toss about Black Friday and Cyber Monday

I like to go out on Black Friday but not to shop. There is entertainment value in watching people go crazy. One year at about 6 in the morning I saw someone shove the guy in the Best Buy mascot (big price tag) costume.

There are some very good deals going already. I just bought a Samsung color laser printer for $100! (new). If you can wait till January, the deals will be even better I'd say.

Forget the TomTom. A friend bought one 2yrs ago on Black Friday and the screen froze after a while. Got a second one, the same thing happened! He ended up with a Garmin. I've got one and our airplanes have an $11k Garmin Nav system in them. The GPS part has been totally reliable.

I've got a TomTom 130 and it's brilliant. Never had a problem with it. Nice and basic without too many bells & whistles.

This will be my first Black Friday in the country. Does anybody know if there are good deals in clothes stores too or is it just big items that are worth being shoved around for by strangers!?

(The frenzy reminds me of the deranged Next store sales in the UK)

There are often good deals in clothing stores, at any time of year. The trick is to be disciplined - pop in when you're passing, but buy nothing unless it's a real bargain. My threshold is, I'm looking for a $500 suit to cost $60-$70, a $25 shirt to be $3-$5, etc.

Puts you right off paying full price!

clothes if you live near an outlet mall, find out the day of new delivery and pop in the day before around 5-6pm as the staff are busy clearing the full price rails and reducing the price of the stuff on them, it pretty much ensures they will have your size. its a Thursday, at the tangier near me, so I onlt go on a Wednesday evening now.
and we got our counter top chairs from pier one for $58 each instead of $148, about an hour before the store closed, the day before the official sale, as the computers where reset and the staff running round getting ready for the next day and repricing, and we cleared out their stock of 3, which was happily the number we needed.
I avoid Black Friday and try and treat it like Boxing day as in lying on the sofa, and watching crap on TV

I've got a Magellan which works a treat...but I want a TomTom...because I know it works really well in Maine and around Boston....the Garmin, less so...the pick up and maps being a problem in these here sticks

Love my TomTom except when I'm going through the tunnels in Boston, but I'm assuming all satnavs struggle in there. Going through those tunnels is about as scared as I get while driving - the number of times I've ended up at the airport by accident because I panicked at the wrong moment...
