Black Friday
The guy installing my cable mentioned this today as I said I was looking to get a new laptop as my current one is over 6 years old. From what I can gather this is a sale the Friday after Thanksgiving and loads of stuff is reduced. Is it in every store or only certain ones? Is it just the one day? Am I likely to get trampled at my local Walmart if I go looking for a new laptop?
Anyone shed any light on what Black Friday is?

Only the mad go shopping on black friday. I suppose we all hae to try it once.
You could look for your black friday deals online and order right after midnight like I did one year.

Every store has massive sales - but the best are quantity-limited to the first 50 or so customers. So people take their Thanksgiving leftovers and sit in line outside stores the night before!
If there is something that you really need or want, it might be worth looking through the voluminous adverts that will be out there. To get it at the low price, though, you may have to camp out.
I've never done this. My ex did, for his first HDTV. IMHO, prices have already been cut so low that I don't know how many "great" deals will be out there this year.

Not for the faint of heart, but you can definitely get some good deals.

After cooking for Thanksgiving, there is no way I am gonna go camp out all night! I will want to sleep!

You have to be utterly insane to go shopping on Black Friday. You also have to be suicidal to camp out overnight and then get trampled in the stampede for one of the handful of "great deals" each store has.
Believe me, you can find better deals any day of the year on a site like FatWallet.com than you'll get on Black Friday.

You don't go "looking" on BF.. if you're not geared up for it, you hide under the covers!
We're doing a more civilized version over at the store & serving champagne mimosas.. the more lubed up they are, the better they spend!
I guess it's one of those things you have to try.. maybe get a girlfriend to take you along for your first one?

I shop online, where the same deals can usually be had and for a great deal less discomfort. Btw,most of those great deals are active on websites starting about 3am..and some are starting even earlier now around midnight...all from the comfort of home.

It's mental...but if you can be arsed and have something in particular in mind and hang out early enough at the right store you can score a decent bargain...same on boxing day, which is just weird.
I can't be arsed with it, but do check the dregs of the store in the mall if we're up at the grand mothers place just for a few bits and pieces after it has quietened day a bit.

I love BF shopping. I never need anything, I just go for the sport.
I nearly lost 2 fingers to an over zealous granny in the toy section of a Walmart in Scarborough, ME a couple of years ago.
