Big Zoo is dead: Need advice on cheap calling to Europe
A few people here recommended Big Zoo for calls to Europe. Great service and low rates, unfortunately they went out of business.
Any other suggestions for cheap calls to Europe. Calling card/access numbers ok. Thanks |

I moved to onesuite.com on the recommendation from others on this site. It works exactly the same way as Bigzoo and the rates are very similar. |

Not sure if it will work for you, but I really like the rates from
skype. You have to call from your computer, but you can call to a regular telephone number. I use it to call Guatemala, but the rates for Europe are excellent I believe. Also, I've had no complaints at all about the audio. The calls are clearer than most calling cards I've used. http://www.skype.com/ Aaron On Mon, 17 Jan 2005 16:28:46 +0000, DCMark <member6276@british_expats.com> wrote: >A few people here recommended Big Zoo for calls to Europe. Any other suggestions for cheap calls to Europe. Calling card/access numbers ok. Thanks I phone my kids a lot in the UK and use the 10 10 987 service. It's 39 cents to connnect and then 4 cents a minute. But 14 cents a minute if I call their mobile phones. I've used them for 6-7 months without any problems or 'extra' charges |

I've used Swiftcall for 3 years and that's 5 pence a minute. You have to register with them and they take an initial 25 pounds from your credit card. Once the balance gets down to 10 pounds they take another 25 pounds from my Amex and so on. It's a good service as far as I'm concerned |

I use the 10 10 987 number too, to call Europe, and have done so for a couple of years, with no problems either.

Re: Big Zoo is dead: Need advice on cheap calling to Europe
Let me second that. Vonage is great! Also, if you sign up, make sure
to sign up under someone who has it already, as you can get the second month for free. Of course, in the interest of full disclosure, the person you sign up through gets a credit also. So when I tell you to feel free to drop me an E-mail at [email protected] (remove all the x's; I hate spam) and I will send you a link, it's not just because I'm a nice guy. Of course, if you know a friend with vonage, even better. Also, to correct something that the previous poster mentioned, you actually can get vonage with DSL. I called my phone company and they turned off my regular phone service, and just gave me naked DSL. After all was said and done, I ended up saving like $15/$20 a month. Oh, and they send you the equipment for free. Good luck. Re: Big Zoo is dead: Need advice on cheap calling to Europe
Can you use Vonage with your home security system? At the moment my alarm automatically calls a centre who notifies the local police if my alarm is triggered. Would Vonage allow this?

Re: Big Zoo is dead: Need advice on cheap calling to Europe
I'm using Gorliia Mobile http://www.gorillamobile.com/ to make calls from my US cellphone (we don't have a landline) to my family back in UK.
UK landlines are 5 cents a minute. UK mobiles are 25 cents a minute. No set-up fees of monthly minimums. I call a New York Number to access. This call uses up my cellphone minutes if I call during the week - but my cell contract includes unlimited free weekends - so I can call the Gorilla access number for free (no minute costs) and then connect to UK landlines for 5 cents a minute. I found out about them in a advert in one of the in-flight mags on our way over here. I've been using them since June last year and I am happy with the service so far. |
