A big mistake in name change

In her AOS application, my wife (ex K-1) put my first name as her last name. She has already received her AP and EAD on this name.
Now she is finding it difficult to obtain a new ID from VA DMV since they "insist" they can only change from her last name to my last name, or she would have to get a court order.
Is there a way to fix this silly error.
