Better Business Bureau

Do you know much about them?...have you needed to use their services?

http://www.bbb.org/

I've a feeling a transmission shop is gonna try and make me pay a huge bill for work and parts they should have replaced/ fixed less than 12 months ago.

Hubby says we'll threaten them with the BBB (they are members), just wondering if anybody out there has any experiences.

Yes - at work we are registered with them and take complaints received seriously.

I also had cause to use them in a dispute with Target bank and i got quick and favorable resolution so worth a try.

Essentially they act as mediator rather than having actual power - but effective in my experience. Good Luck!

Yes they got money back for me on a bad service too. I can't complain.

Ah the infamous rip-off report - what a load of one sided, idiotic whinge bag bull shit!!! One of the most amusing reads though! I mean - I lost 16k cos BBB didnt report any complaints? Come on if thats the only due diligence they did then they deserve all they get!! Which is true of most of the pathetic stories on that website! :D

BBB is not perfect and really just a mediator with little in the way of teeth - however i have found it effective and many companies do take complaints through it seriously. It is what it is - worth a try but dont rely on it as the answer to all your problems!!

Not true. They will discontinue your membership and give you an unfavorable report if you do not respond/resolve complaints.

All the more reason for the BBB to be biased positively towards the business. Guess who doesn't get the membership fee if the membership is discontinued?

I would think a non-membership-oriented organization would be a better bet, such as the state consumer affairs department or the Federal Trade Commission.
