Don't think they are. The ATM across the street recently changed from Chase to Allpoint. The Chase card prompts for a fee, the Capital One 360 does not.

If you travel a lot, all 7-11 stores have free Citibank ATMs. I think 7-11 is a nationwide chain.

Thanks for that. I read online that they were, but obviously outdated or wrong information on the Internet who would have thought.

All the 7-11 I’ve come across their machines are part of the Co-Op and Moneypass networks so very useful for people who bank with a CU.

We have both got good credit history in the UK but I believe this doesn’t count for a lot here in the US.
At the moment we have an account with Coutts bank and are using our dollar account for all spending.
What is the best bank for British expats starting out with no credit history here? I don’t want to ruin our credit file with lots of applications before we even get started!
Many advice would be appreciated.
do you have AMEX? we had Amex in the UK and moved to USA 2 months ago where we were able to transfer to Amex USA (with same credit limit)

When we first moved we chose the bank my employer used (as I didn't have an SSN on day 1).

The last few years I've used Ally - online only, but they reimburse ATM fees at any ATM, pay great interest on savings, and automatically transfer from savings if needed to avoid overdraft.

Definitely recommend Credit Unions. I have an account with BECU based out of Seattle but now live in Missouri. Have easy access to all co-op ATMs and the staff ar eusually super helpful. They cover any out of network ATM charges too.
