Typically, there are relatively few away fans at US professional sports games as compared to England. So the culture of following your team around the country to all their games does not exist here. The net result is that the potential for conflict between opposing fans is markedly reduced as compared to England.

Maybe not on the west coast, but on the east coast there seem to be a good number of traveling "away" fans, and also transplants that support the away team, that while not as substantial as the British away fans, are a sizeable presence on game day. In fact my local NFL team in reality seems to exist in good part as a magnet for the fans of visiting teams, and the only time there is a substantial crowd is when a high profile team visits - Cowboys, Giants, Steelers, Patriots, Eagles, Packers, etc.

The US ball teams and fans certainly do travel , not too many games are played at home, especially college and pro basketball teams , still trouble sometimes erupts , but nothing like the English football hooligans , they can take all the booze they want traveling by train or coach .

Agreed, football hooligans are in a league of their own, though it's not a problem unique to English clubs.

Yes that's true - I live in Cleveland, my son-in-law is a Cleveland Browns fan, but there's no way he would take my little grandson to a game until he is much older as some of the fans don't behave very well at all.

We used to go by train usually, nobody wanted to drive anyway.

I ended up going to more away games I think than home games, but then often the away games were nearer.

And of course bus and tube. Coaches I did not like, unless they had a bog in the back.

And I never had issues with scarves/shirts etc. Admittedly we are quite fussy about the beer quality.

The travelling fans, well that's because it's much cheaper than going to a home game to see the Pats/Sox/Celtics/Bruins...

And if you're wearing a Yankee's cap around here, it's invitation for a nights hassling.
