Default Best place to move california

I am thinking about trying to find a job in the california area but am not too familiar with the best places to live and work. I am from the UK with a business degree and am looking for an area which is not too expensive accommodation wise (cost of living), has good transport links, and good employment chances. Could anyone offer any advice? Is the best place somewhere like San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Long Beach etc.
Thanks for your help!

San Diego appears to be one of the best places to live right now on the west coast.

I assume that you're going to need a visa? .... How are you planning to get one? ..... It is notoriously difficult to emigrate to the US without the "right connections", merely thinking that you fancy living and working in California is not enough.

San Diego is a nice place to live but make sure you have plenty of bucks if you move here. Also if you like a bit of nightlife it is probably not the place to be. Also employment is not that great here at the moment, so if you are looking to find someone to sponsor you it may require quite an effort on your behalf.

Sorry, don't understand your comment that you like diversity - what do you mean by that?

Is that far enough? .... anyway a good part of California is scheduled to move under the rest of the continental US.

Ha! I just returned from a trip to LA to see my uncle. I was praying it would wait until I got the hell out before it started "moving".:scared:

California is a more expensive place to live than a lot of other states due to higher taxes and expensive property. Having said that, do a google search on biotechs, etc. in the places you want to check out, and you might find some potential employers. You will have a long uphill battle ahead of you though if you are looking to find an employer to sponsor an H-1 while you search from the UK. Competition for jobs is pretty fierce on the west coast, particularly as the economy has dropped over the last couple of years. Good luck though, and be persistant if this is something your really want to do. It is difficult but not impossible.

California is by far the most expensive state to live in America (both in taxes AND property/real estate), so if cost of living is an issue, it should be last on your list. As far as transportation links and jobs, it is also pretty much dead last at the moment. There are more people moving OUT of California now than moving IN as reported by this week's USA Today. One of the factors is that the California job market at the moment is the worst in the entire country. You have to read more about the U.S. and read the news my good man.
