Re: Best Flight Deals
A very, very broad question. I'm afraid it doesn't work as simply as that. Pick your route - know your cariers - sign up for their e-mail offers and deals - consider applying for any affiliated credit cards to get miles as sign-up bonuses...

Mrs tonrob, the Sproutette and I are flying BA business class BOS-LHR-FRA and back for an outlay of just under a grand in August. It can be done if you have a decent credit rating and are prepared to put the effort in...

Wow - how did you manage to get that rate? Are you paying for coach class and then using frequent flier miles to upgrade? I don't think I'm going back this year - but I check prices every couple of weeks and they are way higher than they were when I went back in 09.

Miles redemption - miles obtained via a series of credit card offers rather than simply earning by flying. I basically have enough to fly us across business class every summer for at least the next few years...

Imo, you have to sign up with people like TravelZoo for alerts on fares you're interested in. Otherwise you miss the deals that come and go in a day or two. I just got a San Francisco to London return for March for $420 including all taxes/fees. I was amazed because prices have consistently been in the $650 plus range even for winter. This was for an Iberia codeshare on a BA non-stop flight. Without being alerted to this fare by email, I would never have seen it.

kayak.com waysavvy.com/ and the ilk are worth looking at...but not much good finding a cheap deal to Heathrow from Boston if you live in Minnesota and want to get to Manchester for instance.

Re: Best Flight Deals
If we want to fly direct to the UK from here (Minneapolis), we are restricted to KLM/Delta to LHR. The average return flight seems to be around $700 plus taxes atm. I just compared some dates in April, and it seems to be marginally cheaper for visitors coming the other way.

It can work out cheaper, bit of the topic but I have used twice now a firm in the UK part of the Thomson chain called Hotelopia and get hotels if not on priceline way cheaper then any US site.
Always pay in sterling works out cheaper http://www.hotelopia.com/?currency=49
