Best Cities for Jobs

Will be heading off to the States Early next year for work. I'll will have completed my marketing degree by then and as such do a bit of work for a small resource company plus other hospitality related jobs.

I already hold Dual Australian United States passports so visa is no issue.

Minneapolis, Chicago, Houston Seattle, Los Angeles, San Fran, New York...Which one of these cities has the best job prospects?

Houston seems to have dodged most of the ill effects of the last couple of years, and is still expanding - I assume that means that there are jobs going, but its been a good few years since I looked at the situations vacant listings...........

If you want to do sales then companies all over are chomping at the bit to get fresh graduates in their 20's. They pay them next to nothing on salary, offer big commissions for very hard to attain sales figures, train them in the way they want them to sell and cut them lose after a while if they don't fit in or sell enough.

I'd take a little time to consider the non-employment side of things, such as local politics and weather etc. If you are a bit of a lefty, then Houston may not suit you, vice versa for San Francisco, if you like 2+ months of freezing (sometime bitterly) cold in winter and the same of hot muggy summer then Chicago would suit, if you prefer a Mediterranean climate then SF/LA would be better.

Obviously the job is critical, but getting a job in a place you are going to dislike living won't do you a great deal of favours in general.

Then again, it's all relative. In the UK, I'd be considered a moderate conservative. The same views here make me a raving, left wing, socialist liberal :)

Totally agree. The Republicans make me laugh - well, they would if they weren't so dangerous. I love how they criticize Obama for mismanaging the financial crisis that the Republicans helped create during 8 years of George W!
