Default Best Business States in America

http://www.cnbc.com/id/37554006/

Overall rankings -

* 1. Texas
* 2. Virginia
* 3. Colorado
* 4. North Carolina
* 5. Massachusetts

Interesting line up that...and the break down is kind of a good mix too.

So would you agree with those listings or not?

Well they didn't include FL in it so they must have got something right.

Well in the scoring, is 1 good or bad? In which case, Massachusetts either ranks really good or really bad in education.

At least Washington didn't make the bottom 5.

I know one of our rival companies (sort of) in the United States recently moved from California to Texas; the reason being they felt the taxes were too high. It seems the sunbelt in places like Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte is the place to be, although you can't discount the advantages 'older' states like MA have in terms of education.

I dunno if California might start feeling some pressure as it tries to lower it's deficit. If it has to increase its taxes to do that, then it will haemorrhage business to other states which can entice them.

California was tied at 32 for cost of doing business in this study though with Iowa at No.1 - sounds a bit odd.

No, California was 48th in that category, ahead of only Hawaii and New York.

Oops yes was looking at the 'overall' column.

That makes more sense.

It's flaky because industries vary by State, New Hampshire is a really good place to do business and so is Nevada if you stick with what they're good at doing, no way should Nevada be 47th. Yeah, if you're going to build a factory in Nevada it will not be competitive, but that's not what they're good at, they're good at call centres.

Texas is a big State also, depends on whereabouts in Texas you're talking about. There's a huge difference between Texarkana and Amarillo.
