Default BBC World Service & Sky TV

HI all, I am getting ready to move to the US now I have the K1 visa in my passport, I fly out on June 7th so have planty of time to sort all my stuff out.

My question is can you pick up the BBC World Service up in the US, I'll be in Ohio, and can you in any way get Sky TV??

Thanks in advance

We get BBC America with Time Warner Cable....are in NE Ohio. Steve also watches
footy, although I believe his team is going down this year and won't be on the telly
next year. =o(

If you have Time Warner Cable in your area, they have FoxSportsWorld and BBC America
on Digital. It's dear in price, but Steve does enjoy it and can even order a match to
watch live. ($19.95 per match)Often times they are 2 hour delayed. We also can catch
Rugby on FSW.

BBC World Service: Yes Sky TV: No.

In some area's you can receive even BBC 1 and 2 by cable, but only as part of a
digital subscription. In L.A. you can anyways. It could be you need a dish to receive
it. I know that if I want to receive the one Dutch channel in the U.S. I will have to
get me a dish.

Sky is only broadcasted over Europe. But the U.S. have plenty of TV stations of
their own

BBC World Service come in quite clear on shortwave radio. Also, at times, some Public
Radio stations carry bits of it. Depends upon where you live.

Sky is the "sister" network of the Fox News channel in the US.

You can also get all the BBC radio stations live as a stream on real player via bbc.co.uk/radio

(Providing you have a good connection that is)

Get yourself DSL or cable Internet service. That way you can listen to the beeb
online, and watch their news. Some cable operators carry BBC America, unfortunately
mine doesn't. And there is no way to get Sky TV over here.

Go to www.bbc.co.uk

Click on their Radio station links, you'll find live streams for all the BBC radio
stations including their new digital ones. There are also a bunch of other live radio
streams from the UK, for example Radio Clyde FM (from Glasgow), so you need never be
without a dose of brit-pop should you desire, plus (assuming you are inclined to) you
can catch the Archers when you want to also.

The audio streams are pretty reasonable and should be doable over a dial up
connection, though they are great over DSL/Cable.

I get Directv Satellite, and that carries BBC America. As a poster above mentioned,
FOX is pretty much SKY and vv. All the Simpsons repeats and so on. As well as all the
nerdy discovery channels etc. BBC America shows Eastenders, and most of yer
favourites (though for some reason they show the godawful 'Are you being served')

TLC tends to show a lot of UK made stuff, usually Police Camera Action and other such
brain candy (mind you, it can't Beat 'Worlds WIldest Police Videos on FX)

PBS shows the BBC news, and some others show ITN too.

Has any station announced their schedule for broadcasting the World Cup? There's at
least one pub nearby which will probably open to show it regardless of the time
[for the last Euro you had to book places] but watching or taping it at home would
be useful.

What was brilliant was that recently the Comedy Channel ran Black Books. Then for
some reason stopped. A shame, I love that show.

Default Sky TV

I thought that if you had a Sky Decoder, and Satalite dish that you would have be
able to receive Sky TV, I guess you would have to have all the apropriate Equipment
inc. a PAL style TV instead of NTSC and a means of plugging up 240V equipment.

Or is this not true? I was thinking about this only a few days ago as I have say
satalite dish, and decoder, and a current subscription, only thing I dont have is a
TV able to view PAL.

That's theoretically possible. But as you know most satillite tv services are sold
here in packages like cable tv. -- It's just a though, but perhaps one of them
offers SkyTV.
