You don't have to tell me - since I have been here corning has laid hundreds off and when Dawsons Creek left 200 others where laid off.

I think Sparky and Duncan think it will be a cake walk to find a job!

I wish them every success, in fact I wish everyone success - especially me!

It's the same thing here too Patrick. Lay offs and hiring freezes.

We've just had a pay freeze- no raises for anyone this year but no lay offs, but there is a hiring freeze on- I got my bonus though.

Just heard a bit of surprising news tonight, Sarasota Memorial Hosp has put a hiring freeze on Nurses (and we're desperately short of nurses down here!) and reduced their annual pay raises to below 3%- they used to get between 7 and 10%.

Hubby did the annual job fair in town a few months ago for the company- he only had a few minimum wage factory jobs to offer people this time. He was really shocked as this year- there were only 3 other manufacturers there and a couple of agencies ...mainly advertising not offering jobs. He said over 50% of the people there jobhunting were highly qualified professionals- engineers, attornies, accountants....normally there are mostly entry level or minimum wage people looking

Its the same as here then (UK).
NC is running at 4.1%, according to there stats on websites.
As the report said (BBC), service sector is holding its own out there - this is the sector I work in, so hopefully looking ok for me with my interviews, and NO patrick Im not gloating.
