Default BBC America HD

Not sure if this has been covered before or not. Has anyone actually been able to get BBC America in HD. BBC America have been saying that this would be available for the Torchwood "Children of Earth" series, but I checked with Time Warner in New York and they say it is not yet available but might be available by the end of August - but they're not sure.

As far as I know, BBCA HD was ready to go on Monday. Unfortunately none of the providers thought it was good enough to pick up! I've heard that some providers (Dish off the top of my head) are planning on flipping the switch in fall and the rest are undecided. BBCA will tell you to call your provider and tell them you want BBCA HD but really you should be calling BBCA and telling them that they don't have enough of an appeal for them to be asking for the terms they are asking for.

They have too many logos/ads on the screen for it to make much difference.

Comcast here in ATL is a no go yet. I was looking forward to all the sci-fi in HD. Oh well.

That's all we need - now we get to see the repeat episodes 'D-Place', 'Glass House' or 'Momma Cherri's' of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares in HD.

Bring back EastEnders on BBCA - Ronnie or Tanya in HD wouldn't be bad...

Stopped watching BBCA last year some time, I couldn't handle another 14 hours of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares followed by 15 hours of Bargain Hunt.

I gave up on BBCA years ago due to the frequent ad breaks, utterly awful ads (bottom of the barrel advertisers), and overall crappy programming. You get better UK stuff on PBS - with no ads!

I even stopped watching that on there too because of them cutting 15-20 mins out for commercials.

I watch it elsewhere now and get the full 60 mins.

It is a bit ironic that the BBC - flagship of no advertising - would be associated with perhaps the most intense advertising in the US! I mean ... 'mainstream' US advertising is not great, but the crap commercials they show on BBCA are the utter pits ... doesn't say much for what they view as their target audience!

I agree, I think they are targetting Americans that watch it occasionally and not British people living in the US. People at work that I know watch it think it's great because they get to watch British tv. I have tried explaining to them that they are missing out on so much quality programming because of contractual obligations to the rights of the shows they produce.

Forget BBC America..... get yourself a VPN internet connection to the UK then just stream live and pre recorded tv shows as if you are in the UK - i use www.consult-here.com/vpn.html in conjunction with the beebs iplayer or http://zattoo.com (free download)

Granted http://consult-here.com isnt a free service but its well worth it if you watch much British TV - i had some configuration problems and the tech support guys are helpful ( im not affiliated with the company but just thought they deserve the plug!)

my 2 cents!
