Don't worry about anything, when we got to NC we where petrified about hurricanes but everyone has been through a few here and everyone knows what do to. The same in Texas, I really wouldn't worry too much about it, it will be fine

I don't know anyone with a basement, maybe some of the older houses, but certainly none of the new ones, unless you get one custom built.

Isn't it funny though?! Everywhere else seems to offer a basement or slab, but every property we have looked at in Texas is a slab base. We saw ONE that said it had a 'Texas Basement' whatever that is... sounds a bit suspect to me!

If you are looking at more recently built homes, it could be due to the price. I understand that having a basement built with a house can make it very expensive. Maybe you are looking in an area that is already expensive.

We're looking at the Dallas Metro area - I have nothing to compare it to so not sure if it is considered expensive or not.

I know the Alamo doesn't have a basement

When I lived in middle TN, no houses had basements. When I dug a new bed in my garden, I learned why - the ground was literally solid rock in places. I've heard that's often why houses don't have basments in some areas.

This may be why there are no basements where you live. Or it could be because of the huge spiders......

Yup, it's the spiders. Oh, and the flying cockroaches.

God, we had loads of those in the first house I lived in after leaving the UK. As my eyes got used to the dark after turning off the light at night, I'd see small shadowy shapes moving around on the white ceiling.

Then I'd hear this soft "whirrrrrrrrrr!!!!!", and feel something soft brush against my face.........

......but I'm sure you won't find them in Texas.

Probably because the foundations shift up to a 1 inch a year with some homes in Texas and a basement would be more trouble than it is worth in expenses.
