Default Barbers / Hair cut styles

Well the time has finally arrived, to much dismay, to get these ears lowered.

One burning question... Are the numbers in the UK and USA the same? Like will asking for a "#2 short back and side" get me a style same/similar to the UK?

I have a preference for the most boring hair style.

And how much to tip? 15%?

Cheers

I find the price to be embarrassingly low, and tip heavily. Until a couple of years ago I was still being charged $12 for a wash and cut and I gave my stylist $20. I think she put her price up to $15 eventually, and I usually give her $21-$22, depending on what's in my wallet.

Granted, I am not just getting a #2 all over.

I recommend buying clippers and having your wife do it.

And yes, I tip well.

A #2 is the same here as in the UK. My barber charges $16 and I give him a $20.

Depends.

Some use the plastic guides on the clippers and those are longer than the metal ones, by almost a grade.

Unless you go to one of those Super Cuts, type places, which around here is around $18-23, a regular barber is usually about $25 plus a few bucks tip.

The missus, had her hair cut on our last trip to Maine, at the mall, one of those chain places and it was $20. The missus thought that was how much the person was asking for a tip, as the basic ladies hair cut at the same place in our mall is $65 for ladies

I just say "1960's NASA Astronaut" and they generally know what I'm looking for.

Um. This has happened in my household as the price of haircuts here is plain daft.

No.2 for winter and No.1 for summer. Bald coot that he is.

It is not a job that I enjoy.

As said previously, the numbers are the same. $11 for my haircut, I give him $15. I don't recommend buying clippers and getting your wife to do it unless, A she's a hairdresser, B you are getting a blade 1 all over C you want a shit haircut.

Why not? It's ridiculously easy to cut blokes' hair. I've been doing my husband's and son's for many years. It would be even easier to pick it up now there are YouTube videos to watch. The clippers do all the work for the main body of hair; as long as you can hold the clippers/ scissors steady and cut in a straight line to finish off around the neck and ears, there's absolutely nothing that can go wrong.

Wasn't there a whole thread about 'short back and sides' not meaning anything here?

I dunno? "#2 short all over" is another of my trademarked phrases.

I haven't a clue what # the hair person uses, never asked. The place I go is $25 or so, the cheap chain type places run around $15-$20 + tax and tip.
