Banking in the US
I wondered if there was a cheap and easy way to transfer money from a US to a UK account? I may be moving out there for 2 years and will be paid into a US bank account, however I will still need to move money back to my UK account to pay my mortgage etc. in the UK each month (or perhaps every 2-3 months if cheaper).
Are there fees involved in such transactions? Are there any banks which are more geared towards this? My contact at Barclays in the UK suggested Bank of America.
Any info much appreciated

HI I've been using Xoom www.xoom.com. It only costs $5 and I find the money is usually in my UK account in 15 mins. The Bank Of America fees are quite high.

Many use xe.com, me included.
Retail banks are rarely competitive when sending money in either direction.

Loads of threads on this...but what ^ said, XE for regular or large sums, xoom for small sums.

If you quialify, get Premier relationship with HSBC. Then open account in the US. There is a facility called global view, you can see all your accounts everywhere in the world and move money in real time between your accounts online at no cost - up to $100k each day. Exchange rate is not bad.
For me HSBC were a star. They gave me mortgage in the US before I actually moved there, with very good rate.
I think Citibank has something similar too.
