Ok then.

I guess it's just me they don't like.

Since the account is now closed, I guess I'm done with them anyway.

Thanks for the responses.

My new Barclays card arrived in the mail last week, after I spoke to the nice lady in the call centre in India. Absolutely no problem at all.

I think I have a Debit Card but access my account on line and have cheques I very occasionally use.

I also has problems getting Barclays to send cards to the US. I left the UK around the same time you did, late 2008. I just get them sent to my sister's address. I have not tried recently to get them sent to the US. It is sometimes useful to have a card with a UK postcode.

The best way to avoid these difficulties is to treat your bank accounts and credit cards as a farmer does with his fields. Just cycle through them. I have employed this approach for many years and never have the problems encountered. The trick is to have some activity on all your accounts no matter how minimal. its easy enough to do especially in this time of the internet. Just bounce $100 around all accounts. No loss but it keeps 'them' on their toes and prevents them from claiming dormancy etc.

I do the same , just set up standing order between two accounts. I have £20 going out on the 1st and then it goes back in on the 15th. However I did find out recently to my cost that direct debits expire if not used for a year.
