Badly cut thumb will this be a problem?

My OH has just sliced right across his thumb and is worried this will cause problems when they come to take out finger prints in the US.

Any ideas on this?

I think it is one finger (not thumb) on each hand on entry (pointing fingers).
Probably plenty of time for it to heal enough before further fingerprints are needed

We fly the day after tomorrow not sure how well it will heal by then but hopefully it will be ok as it is one thumb:unsure:

but you do not need it to be healed by the day after tomorrow as only the pointing fingers are scanned on entry (if my memory serves me well)
I also expect that they will be used to this kind of thing.

Don't worry about it I doubt he's the first person to need fingerprinting with a cut, keep it bandaged and when they ask he can remove the dressing, the'll see what he's done. Aren't the prints done by scan now? He won't get the horrible ink in them when they are done and he can just put the dressing back on when you are done. They wipe the machine with alcohol so he shouldn't get an infection, but I'd slather it with some anti septic Neosporin or something after wards.
Dh has all kinds of scars on his fingers and never had problems with the scan fingerprint machine, I did, too many years of cleaning the house without gloves on my prints are faint and the machine kept rejecting them.

Just a dumb question here...Is it only certain nationalities that get fingerprinted? I entered on my Canadian passport in July and didn't get printed.

Re: Badly cut thumb will this be a problem?

We flew in to SFO today and I was only asked for my right hand four fingers. I did show him the cut but tbh he was the nicest immigration chap we've ever dealt with.

With the paperwork with the visa interview being so certain that a finger injury would mean the interview would be void I was a little worried.

How are the dogs? We had to queue at customs to get our paperwork signed before we got them released, it seemed to take ages but in fact it took less than 40 mins from leaving the airport till we had the dogs with us.

Thank you my lovely friend. Guess that's another reason to renew it when it expires in November and not travel on my Australian one.

oh rats.. they're only good for 5 years, is that right? And expensive to renew!
It really depends .. unless you are trying to not be fingerprinted for some reason (and I don't think they are FPing for VWP visits.. these OPs have a work visa) then it's no problem to enter on the Aus one for short visits. Canadians are admitted for 180 days vs the VWP/Australian 90 days, but you don't usually stay that long do you?

Welcome to the US, BadgerNaboo and oicur0t!!! Hope you are all settling in ok!

I'll probably renew it anyway. My mom is nearly 86 now so I figure in the next couple of years I'll be making another trip to Canada anyway. Not that I would mind being fingerprinted I guess. Got nothing to hide here.

Hi Sarah

We cleared customs then were told to go back to where we came from. We went back there and then were told to go back to where we came from. We got a cab to the cargo and were told it would take an hour so I told the cab to go. Then after 30 mins I was told I had to go to customs a 20 minute walk away. I stayed with the 8 bags of luggage and James ran to get the form signed at customs then more messing around paid the $35 and had to wait another 10 min. Finally I was allowed into the hanger where the dogs were and the guy picked up both crates and dropped one :(

Waited another 2 min for a cab and were last on our way..

Never been so happy to see my dogs I would not fly them again so when we move in Vancouver we will drive.

Many thanks it feels good to be here with our dogs :)

Re: Badly cut thumb will this be a problem?

i cant believe they dropped a crate!! I would have been livid, have you had the dog in the dropped crate fully checked over? as the company who dealt with them should have covered the cost of that.

Sorry to hear it was a bad experience for you with them, but they are both with you now, and Im sure they will appreciate the drive over the flight to Vancouver :)

Look forward to catching up with you soon for a walk
