B2 Visa Accompanying Spouse With E1 Working Visa

I came over to USA on a E1 work visa 2 year contract in August 01. My Wife did not get the EI Accompanying visa because we got married only a few days before we came out. Instesad she was issued with B2.
In Nov 2001 we returned to UK for my fathers funeral but when we returned we got loads of Hassle from Immigration who told us that my wifes B2 was no good for reentry AND THEY THREATENED TO PUT HER BACK ON THE PLANE TO UK, which was very stressfull experience..
Eventually after a couple of hours debate they let her in but we had to pay for an E1 I 95 on the spot so she is currently staying on the basis of a B2 which expires AUG 03 and an E1 basis I 95.

At the time we were not aware that my Wifes visa has a very tiny letter M on it that we are now aware aparently means multi entry.
My company had not explained this to me so at the time I was non plus. Neither apparently were the immigration people who did not recognize it or missed it for some reason.

Therefore I paid out unnecessarily due to their apparent inability to understand their own visa technicalities.

The problem is that if we leave the USA again before contract expiry and visa expiry we are afraid the same thing will happen and she will be refused entry. Despite the little "M".
Can anyone advise will we be OK or is it likely to be a problem.
